HIV Figures and Facts

HIV virus was first recognised on December 1981. As of January 2006, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimate that AIDS has killed more than 25 million people. 

 

In 2005 alone, AIDS claimed an estimated 3 million lives of which almost 600,000 are children.

 

It is estimated that 0.6% of the world population is infected with HIV.

 

UK currently has almost 100,000 infected people and spends over £500,000,000 per year on HIV/AIDS treatment and care.

 

US currently has almost 1 million people who are infected and spends ,000,000,000 per year on treatment and care.
